Summer Camp!

Summer’s coming and families are looking into camp options! Here is a list of camps in Washington State (and a few just over the border in Idaho) that offer programming and trained staff for individuals with special health conditions or disability. The list includes free camps, camps partnered with Lifespan Respite WA where families can use their voucher, and non-partnered camps that charge a fee, but which may have scholarships or similar assistance. Respite offers a short-term break for caregivers and those they support. Time apart can boost well-being for all: While caregivers temporarily shift their focus to self-care, care recipients have time to meet new people and explore new interests.

Modern families come in many styles. Primary caregivers may be a parent, a child, a spouse or partner and they might be other relatives (kinship providers), friends, or neighbors. “Care recipient” is a term for anyone who requires assistance for daily living. “Caregiver” refers to anyone who provides regular assistance to a child or adult with a chronic or disabling condition.
